after i made my 4th of july ruffled table runner, i had some leftover ruffles
they were too short to sew anything with, so i made one of my specialties... a wreath!
i braided some fabric scraps for the hanger
after i made my 4th of july ruffled table runner, i had some leftover ruffles
they were too short to sew anything with, so i made one of my specialties... a wreath!
i braided some fabric scraps for the hanger
i did a series of 4th of july crafts and i kicked off my sewing projects with a ruffled table runner.
i found this great tablecloth fabric in the clearance bin (where i buy all my fabric haha):
I also gathered a bunch of other collected fabrics i had in the most patriotic colors i could find
i busted out my sewing machine and went to town making ruffles
after i trimmed and organized the ruffles on my cloth, i had a cute little 4th of july ruffled table runner!
of course there are a few flaws
and it isn't as long as i wanted
but i just love the colors and the ruffles and i'm proud of myself for finishing a project!
It's that time of year again for the Craftaholics Anonymous Christmas in July Gift Exchange!! I participated last summer and got an amazing gift and I swapped again with a partner in December where I sent something and got something great in return!
This year I was paired up with Anne from Anne Franklin Designs (and boy does this woman have talent! I had a lot to live up to.) While we were "getting to know" each other I found out she loves pink and green, she has three daughters and she likes anything vintage (just like me!).
So I got to work on a gift for her three girls...
They are bathing suit bags for them to throw their wet suits in after going to the pool.
And for Miss Anne I put together an organization kit made from vintage pink and green fabric.
A notebook with a pocket, a pencil case, and a clip board. I figured she was a busy mom, running her own business and a little extra help in the organization department would be a useful gift!
I am so excited to be a part of this fun swap again and I can't wait to show off my gift when it gets here.
i got a sewing machine for Christmas the year derek and i started dating. i told him i would make him two things: an apron (which has yet to be done) and an Alabama football pillow.
well ladies and gentlemen... i have finally lived up to part of my promise:
the fabric came from a dress someone gave me that was too big and since Alabama fans love their crimson and houndstooth (which i loved until they "stole" it) i knew this fabric was perfect for the project.
i clipped and pinned and stitched and made sure all the buttons lined up just right...
and three years (and just a few minutes of my time) later... derek finally has his Alabama pillow!
i think i might add an A or a Bear Bryant hat. any suggestions on what it needs?
Here at "Camp Kinkade" we want to make sure the top of our campers' heads never get chilly or unfashionable so we teach them how to make their own adorable headbands!
We started out with some adorable turquoise silk found in the clearance bin
then we found an easier-than-i-originally-thought tutorial online... and got to work
and then of course the new owner had to model it
(don't let the not-smile fool you... she loved it)
then we decided it was too much fun to make just one so i whipped up one my shirt-collar bow headbands
who wants to see my latest wedding craft...? i'll start by showing you some inspiration pictures (and i'm kicking myself for not saving where they came from but my guesses are etsy, 100 layer cake, or once wed)
before we get to the craft, i'll start by telling you i bought the BEST book ever!
(and did you notice how many "ear marks" i have? haha)
well if you turn to one of those marked pages you will find:
painted on my first layer of color
then put together all the accessories for little taylor and little derek
i love that they show our personality, match what we will be wearing AND can be an ornament on our Christmas tree every year!
i got the craft itch the other night and i was in the mood to just make something, anything. so i had some canisters and jars that i used to store trim and other sewing do-dads, and i wanted to make them cuter.
so with a little bit of scrapbook paper, a few pieces of ribbon, and some mod podge, i did it.
and now my little storage containers look better.
plus i did a little "craft room re-organize" where i turned this mess
i love spray paint. it is one of my new favorite crafting "weapons"! if i see something in a thrift store that i don't love, 9 times out of 10 its because i don't love the color. well that's where my new friend spray paint comes in!
i set up a little temporary spray painting station in the yard...
using a piece of plywood i found on sale and my saw horses i bought with Christmas gift cards
and of course i couldn't get anything accomplished without my trusty assistant, june. haha
i started with a wooden key i found at a thrift store
and some gold candle holders (and a set of keys we will get to later)
and then i picked up a couple little birdies at the dollar store
then i spread them all out on the "spray station"
applied a coat of primer (which i just learned about and now highly recommend)
then after a couple of coats of spray paint...
the wooden key now resides above my door
with the other members of my key collection
(and remember those keys from earlier? here they are now)
and the pretty birds and the candle holders now play a role in the spring scene on the entertainment center.
i've mentioned before that all my crafts don't turn out the way i plan... and here's another one. my vision was to create a blue ball jar look-a-like with inspiration from other decorative jars i have seen, but instead i got this semi-mess.
i don't hate them, but i don't love them either.
has anyone seen the adorable quilted letters from anthropologie? well has anyone looked at the price tag on one of those adorable letters? exactly.
since my (one of many) motto is "i can make it for less" i decided to take a stab at it. and i'm going to go ahead an apologize for the lack of pictures, i wasn't sure this project was going to work in my favor.
i found a tutorial for some similar diy letters, but i can't track it down now. basically i found the cardboard letters on sale at hobby lobby, traced out quilt batting and material and got to gluing.
i then used bias tape on the outline and used a few buttons as embellishments.
together we have T for taylor and D for derek. i'm not completely sure how, but i plan on using these somewhere at the wedding.
